The best book on gold and silver investing by a long shot - UPDATED

I've read every book there is on gold and silver and this is the best by a country mile. If you are new to this topic, this book may change your life. Not only will you learn everything you need to know about HOW to invest in gold and silver, you'll also learn WHY. If the buffoonery of our politicians and Wall St have left you scratching your head and wondering what the hell is going on, Maloney's insights into monetary history will make things crystal clear. History repeats, but with a little twist each time. It's wonderfully written, and the recent updates are a great addition to what has become the gold and silver bible. Can't recommend this highly enough, get yourself a copy now.

Mr. Maloney condenses years worth of research and study into a book for the lay person. I highly recommend it. I also highly recommend his You Tube channel. It was because of Mr. Maloney's work that I bought both gold and silver.

About the Author
Neil C. Schofield is the Managing Director of Financial Markets Training Ltd and delivers training courses in the areas of treasury, derivatives, capital markets and risk management to financial institutions, central banks and corporations worldwide.
Neil was global head of Financial Markets training at Barclays Capital from 2001 to 2008. He teaches primarily on the rates business, covering all of the major asset classes and their respective derivative products from foreign exchange through to commodities.
Before joining Barclays Capital, he was a director at Chisholm-Roth Training for 4 years, where he was responsible for provision of training services for a number of blue chip global investment banks. � He started his training career at Chase Manhattan Bank, where he was originally employed as an internal auditor.�Neil holds a B.Sc. in Economics from Loughborough University and an MBA from Manchester Business School. He was elected as a Fellow of the IFS School of Finance (formerly the Chartered Institute of Bankers) in 1999.
Neil was appointed as a Visiting Fellow at the University of Reading ICMA centre in April, 2007.�

A great overview of both findings in neuroscience as well as practical ways to apply them in everyday life

Great author and great book!

Great book! Easy to read and fun to read as well. John Medina did a nice job of taking one of the most complex things in the world (the human brain) and breaking it down into 12 simple rules for parents, educators, and every day people to understand. You do not need a bachelors in anatomy and physiology like many of the brain books I have read before. It is a fascinating book and it is great to understand each component of how your brain works! Highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about their brain, their child's brain or their students' brains. The book breaks down the 12 rules into these categories: Survival/Evolution, Exercise, Sleep, Stress, Wiring, Attention, Memory, Sensory Integration, Vision, Music, Gender Differences and Exploration. Also the website that John Medina provides is very useful because it is an automated video and provides visuals and examples for each chapter to help you understand the concepts!

Brain Rules by John Medina is a book covering the brain. The focus of the book is on how you can improve your life based on what science has learned about the brain. Medina covers 12 principles which are 12 tips for how to improve your mental performance.

I quite like this book in that it covers nicely some actionable steps to improving mental performance. It makes each chapter self-contained and the way Medina writes, has inspired me to makes changes to my own life. The writing style is quite easy to follow and Medina takes a much personal style as well in telling stories about himself and how some of these principles apply to his own life. Each chapter ends with how each principle could be applied to school and work which I quite like but feels a bit malplaced.

Some of the chapters are better and more interesting than others and towards the end the book loses its momentum.

The rating given reflects the interesting content but also the sometimes uneven focus on the content.
I'd recommend this book for people new to cognitive science and who is not interested in the research but wants some actionable steps.

About the Author
Marie Duan Meservy is a graduating University of Nevada medical student who writes about her diverse life adventures. Her story began in China where she was the child of two young doctors, living without refrigerators or hot water. She has since lived in Montreal and many parts of the U.S., and continues to broaden her perspective by traveling. She first decided to pursue medicine when, as an undergraduate, one of her research projects required her to perform open heart surgeries on mice. During her clinical years, she began writing stories about the brave and resilient patients she met in hospitals, but as her readers encouraged her to continually seek these lessons, this has blossomed into a passion that has shaped her practice of medicine.

Very entertaining!

My wife and I read this book together in a day of travel. It gets into the head of a medical student and gives an idea of what it must be like to be one. The book is refreshing and clever. It appeals to the humanity within all of us and reminds us of our mortality from a new perspective. It had us continuously laughing one moment and crying the next. About the Author
Gary Heyward was born and raised in New York City’s Polo Ground Projects in Harlem. At the age of nineteen, he joined the United States Marines and became a decorated war veteran by serving in Desert Storm/Desert Shield Operation in 1990–1991. After receiving an honorable discharge he served as a New York City corrections officer, working ten years at Rikers Island. In May of 2006 Gary was arrested and convicted for selling drugs throughout the jail. During his incarceration he developed a passion for writing and penned his memoir, Corruption Officer. He was released in 2008 and currently works for the city of New York.

CHAPTER 1

THE G-SPOT

“HEAD CRACK!” the houseman yelled.

“Alright, nobody move!” he said, as he went around the table to collect the money from the bettors.

The game was C-low and at this time my man Fungler was at the top of his game again. It’s a Friday night, payday, and I have every dime in the bank (the bank is the guy who takes the money for bets) on Fungler. I gave him that name because that’s what he yells every time he shoots the dice. I’m his hype, motivating him when he shoots and antagonizing the other bettors around the table to bet against him. Whenever he’d win we both made money. Lately Fungler was on a roll.

Fungler and I would be on our bullshit as usual. When Fungler would get the dice he’d shuffle them, then shake them in his hand. I’d be beside him screaming, “Thrilla in the manila dilla!” He’d shake his head indicating “no.” Then I’d scream, “Feva in the Funkhouse!” He’d shake his head again indicating “no.” Then I’d scream, “Rumble in the Jungle.” Then Fungler would say, “Rumble in the jungle without the fungle kungle,” while simultaneously releasing the dice and watching them register. Every time we did this routine, we’d hear the houseman yell, “HEAD CRACK!”

People who had bet against him would put their heads down or have the shit-face (upset facial expressions). Then a cheerleader from the side would yell, “Double or nothing, I bet he can’t do it again!” A cheerleader is a person on the sidelines with no money, talking shit about somebody else’s money! Fungler gets the dice, but before we go into our routine, in walks Chuck.

Chuck’s money is long. He has a lot of it. Every time Chuck comes in, muthafuckas who are scared, and have the bank with a lot of money in it, normally pass it to the next bettor. They don’t want to take a chance of losing it all in one shot. Everybody knows Chuck will stop up your bank—putting a large amount of money down on a bet equal to or more than what you have.

Everybody knows the routine, but not Fungler. Fungler’s eyes lit up. He hollered at Chuck, “Get down, nigga. I know you ain’t come here to sightsee!” Fungler looked at me with a shit-eatin’ grin like, “I got this nigga!” I looked at him like, “Muthafucka, just pass the bank!” Then somebody on the side said, “Look at this STD (scared-to-death) ass nigga!” and everybody laughed.

Yes, scared ass nigga, a person who tries to gamble with the big dawgs but really has a low-paying security job, and has no business being at the gambling spot in Harlem, or anywhere else for that matter, ’cause he knows that he is living PTP (paycheck to paycheck). If he loses his money this payday Friday night, he will be like Sidney Poitier in A Raisin in the Sun when Willie runs off with all that money.

“Willie, don’t do it, Willie, not with that money, Willie!”

Yes, scared nigga. That would be me! Gary, Gee, Big Hey. It all depends on who is calling me. My momma calls me “Boy” or “Nutmo,” aka scared nigga!

So Chuck dropped his stack. And Fungler started talking shit, saying, “After this roll all you working niggas are going to be sick! You’re gonna throw up on your way to the ATM! I love taking a nine-to-five nigga’s money, but taking a hustler’s money is like winning ten thousand dollars on one of those scratch tickets. What is that?” Fungler asked the crowd.

“FREE MONEY!” everybody replied.

Everybody except me. I was busy trying to get this nigga’s attention to pass that muthafuckin’ bank! Fungler continued to shake the dice, ridiculing Chuck.

“Taking a hustler’s money is like going to Rent-A-Center, getting a whole bunch of shit delivered to your apartment, then moving to Brooklyn!”

Again, everybody laughed, except me. I was still in scared nigga mode!

“Getting his money is like going up in a bitch raw dog and not worrying about kids ’cause she got her tubes tied!” Fungler continued, and said, “What’s that?”

“FREE MONEY!!” They all laughed.

I’m over here figuratively sharting on myself, like when you think you have to fart but mistakenly shit on yourself instead. Chuck screamed out, “Nigga, would you stop walking the cat walk and just roll the muthafuckin’ dice!” Fungler shook them, then looked at me. Man, listen, the look I gave him was not a confident one. I did not even play with this nigga.

“Fungle in the rumble jungle kungle without the ungle dungle sungle?” I screamed out. Whatever the fuck that meant.

Fungler threw the dice. It seemed like it took an eternity as they flew past my face. At that moment all I could think about was my kids asking me for Michael Jordan sneakers, my past-due rent. Mom Dukes ain’t taking no shorts on rent. If I lose, how am I going to get to work next week? Willie, don’t do it!

The dice hit the wall and registered one-one-six! Fungler screamed, “HEAD CRACK!” I momentarily blacked out, then came back screaming, “NIIII-ZZIIIII-GAA!” After the house collected the money, totaling about sixty-six hundred dollars, I went over to Fungler and copped out, saying, “Yo, man, I gotta go.” So Fungler passed the bank. We split the dough. I tore the door off its hinges getting the fuck out of there.

Not a Pity-Party - Just the Real Deal

This is a very accurate book in terms of the daily-workings of large inner-city jails. I have a few close friends who are Riker's Island CO's, and the stories they tell me over the years are identical to those depicted by Heyward. This book is not "dumbed-down" as described by another review - rather, it's written in the dialect of many CO's and inmates. I also don't understand how anyone can be "confused" by the writing. Fine literature it is not; rather, it is a simply written story of one man's life/story. In addition to the casual reader, I recommend this book for those considering or entering corrections. Having visited clients on Riker's Island, I can personally attest that the "Island" is a world of its own. Heyward takes you directly into that world.

Gary Heyward's CORRUPTION OFFICER reminds us when faced with a choice to choose wisely

When it comes to looking at life and our choices and what can be the consequences of our actions, I think Gary Heyward's book CORRUPTION OFFICER is a great reminder for us all.

It takes us not just into the life and decisions he made, but what happened when the truth of his life was revealed and the abuse of authority that he had been entrusted became known. Gary takes us not just into his life as an officer trying to do his job but also the Gary that was looking after himself.

He talks about the way he treated those who loved him, the way he treated inmates and even the way he treated fellow officers. This is a book that lets us know that no matter who we are, what we wear or what title we have at the end of the day we are all accountable for our actions, and one day we will have to give account to what we have done.

When tables turn on Gary he better understands the importance of doing what is right. Now he can use his story to let others know the pitfalls of making bad choices and not allowing greed to blind us to doing what is right.

Definitely a book that speaks to the heart of everyone faced with good versus bad, Gary Heyward invites us to learn from his life and choose wisely.

A painfully honest memoir *

Corruption Officer is an excellent read of such a compelling tale. I read this book in 1 day, couldn't put the book down. Author Gary L. Heyward showed that anyone can make a mistake. He gives you insight into what happens behind the scenes in prison whereas in some situtations we would never even imagine. I recommend this book to all, but specifically to those needing encouragement on how to perservere through it all and rebuild a life after trying times.

It has been claimed that we live in a time without myth. But if C.G. Jung, Joseph Campbell, Hermann Hesse, Thomas Mann, Mary Shelley, Robert Graves, Jorge Luis Borges, F. Scott Momaday, and a host of other preeminent minds are correct, then myth is always with us and all around us as the basic psychic weave that holds our relations with ourselves, each other, and the living world. The real question is whether we resonate to the weave of myth consciously or unconsciously, knowingly or involuntarily, even tragically.

The Living Myth Series seeks to foster consciousness of the presence and power of myth in our lives. In the end myth is story, and story always says more about the heights and depths of human experience than facts or figures can by themselves.

C. G. Jung used the term "personal myth" to �d�escribe how �collective stories, images, and motifs recur in our lives. Over time, however, Jung's term was watered down until it came to mean a kind of personal fiction one could change out of and discard like an old garment.

"What is the myth behind your story?" asks the back cover of this slim and readable book. Craig Chalquist offers a reconciliation between two truisms: everybody is unique, and there is nothing new under the sun. How are patterns and incidents in your life a reflection, or continuation, of the great human stories held in mythology, spirituality and culture? What can you learn about yourself by understanding the tale that contains your tale? Storied Lives: Discovering and Deepening Your Personal Myth is the distillation of many years of personal, professional, and academic experience by Dr. Chalquist exploring ways to allow one's personal myth to become consciously understood and lived.

In the midst of clearly explaining the concepts from C.G. Jung and other depth psychologists that led to his understanding Dr. Chalquist drops, like lucky pennies found on the sidewalk, illustrations and images from contemporary culture that bring technicolor clarity to his ideas. He also has the ability to accurately represent ideas from various systems of thought at the same time as he points out--often with a compassionate humor--the fallacies and foibles of those systems.

His extensive cross-cultural familiarity with archetypal images from myth and story allows him to link them to historical and present day figures with insight, compassion, humor, and even sadness where appropriate. How is George W. Bush like Mars? How was John Denver like Icarus?

In addition Dr. Chalquist offers a summary of the work of other writers on personal myth and explains the similarities and differences between their understanding and his. He discusses reasons why our culture denies its mythic container. He has two chapters allowing others he has influenced to write about their personal myths. In the last chapter he expands his vision from just the stories we live, to the stories of the places we live, linking his explanations from Terrapsychology: Reengaging The Soul Of Place and Ecotherapy: Healing with Nature in Mind with those of personal myth.

There is, at times, a numinous, dream, or day-dreamlike quality to Dr. Chalquist's writing. This can be a challenge to those personalities like mine who prefer reality clearly defined in logical and progressive steps with the rules spelled out. This book is not a typical 21st century "how to" manual that gives you ten easy steps guaranteed to enable you to find your personal myth. Rather, as the Jungian scholar that he is, Craig Chalquist suggests, points over there, offers possible ideas and methods that could enable you to see the resonance between the great human stories and the deepest experiences of your life. Those resonances, listened to and dreamed about, have the potential to clarify your sense of self in remarkable ways--as they did for me. I was surprised at how clear Chalquist was able to make this subject which often becomes weighed down in jargon. If you are new to the idea of myth as a personal inquiry tool I highly recommend it. I gained perspective on the intersections of Campbell, Hillman, and Jung which helped me during my analysis process.

Great Book for Leaders and Parents

This is the first book I have read that really covers most if not all aspects of Spiritual Maturity. From the point of view of Parenting, Pastoring and or even the child's, all the bases are covered. The transparency and character of Patty and Greg make this a fun, interesting and a book that goes beyond a challenge and demands a change. I have already implemented several new words and expressions into my communications with my boys and better, my wife. This book has real heart and I mean the heart of God for us. If you know something needs to change in the way we raise our children, disciple our young and or as you look at yourself, I assure you "Raising Spiritual Children" will bless and help transform our character and relationships.

Encouraging and informative

This book was truly a privilege to read - a really informative and encouraging book on such an important topic. Many of the principles of raising spiritual children that are discussed do not appear to be covered in the vast number of parenting books available. A must for any parent who is keen on raising a spiritually aware and mature kids.

Nurturing your child's spirit is the most important parenting you can provide.

Just completed reading Raising Spiritual Children. My children are 27 and 23 however I knew I was to read this book. God didn't so much point out mistakes I made, although there were some, as much as He showed me things that had held me back from my walk with Him. Thanks Patty and Greg for being used for the Kingdom.
