His Absolute Protection is an Absolute WINNER!!

This is another great read by the author in the Absolute series. In this story, we find out Jessika is newly pregnant and Asher is going crazy trying to protect his family from harm. Someone has been sabotaging the family from within and also there has been corporate sabotage by using their friends Luc and Elise to damage their company by using them as the guilty party to damage to company and them.

Throughout this story, there were some twists and turns that had me holding my breath. I found myself at one point thinking the friends were friends when in reality, the friends were enemies(Think of someone really high up in Asher's company and think someone you would least expect) -{No Spoliers here} and the enemies were just somewhat pso-enemies -only time will tell with who is friend and who is foe.

The ending leaves Asher and Jessika in a precarious position and leaves our favorite couple facing the toughest fight ever.

I loved this story and there was some moments that had my panties melting -Asher is definitely a Dom with a capital D. Jessika is so sweet and she loves her man. There are those out to ruin my fav couple and I want them vanquished forever. I gobbled up this story like it was my favorite dark chocolates. You can't just stop with one. There are so many great parts in this story and there are so many twists and turns that made me say "OMG, no you didn't" or " OMG, you're a crazy nutcase" and that is my using polite language. Ms. Du Lys had another hit on her hands. The only thing I hated is I have to wait for part 5 to come out which makes me, her reader, very sad { picture sad eyes here} other than that, WHAT A GREAT , FABULOUS Journey!!

Good Night, this was a hot one!! This couple sparks up the sheets and book pages!! Their love story is paramount and all encompassing. They adore each other. Why they have so much trouble is just not fair!! They don't deserve all this misfortune. They really don't!! Even if he is a Billionaire Dom!! And young and handsome and brilliant to boot!! Not to mention, madly in love with his Jessika, who is an answer to all of his prayers and hidden desires he didn't even know he had!!
I refuse to divulge any spoilers. So, that's all I can say....other than, you MUST read this one if you like a good love story with a lot of spice. I loved it!!

Hot sexy read!!!

This series is so awesome and Jessika and Asher are just so hot together. The sex scenes are so freakin hot that when you read you will need a air conditioner on full blast directed at you to cool off slightly. Jessika and Asher are the couple that you think should live happily ever after but as you can see someone is out to get them, but these two are fighting together against the unseen bully out to get them. They love each other so much and now with the baby coming, you can see how great parents they will make. I cannot wait to read the next and last book about Asher and Jessika to see who has been after them. This is the perfect time to read all the books if you have not. Great job!! Well written!!

This book is an excellent step-by-step guide to understanding and mastering the fine art of conversation and speaking the advice in this book can be applied to everything from public speaking for politicians to making pleasant conversation or Smalltalk to ensure that you make a positive first impression for a job interview or it can help you figure out what to say on a first date and even how to tell stories to your kids or grandkids as if you were Homer, or the Brothers Grimm. This book will teach you turn your tongue to silver and make your words flow like watercolors on a canvas.

I stumbled across this book because I have always been fascinated by words and how they can have a direct effect on people’s lives and the reasons why some people are better with words than others and how those that have the gift of gab tend to be more successful than those that have difficulty expressing themselves. This book has proved to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that having a way with words and being able to express yourself accurately and with feeling is a skill that can be learned and perfected over time and I will definitely be applying some of the techniques and advice in this book the next time I have to give a presentation as a docent at my local history Museum and I will also make sure to be more mindful of the words and phrases I use while engaging in conversation as according to this book words and the feeling place behind them can mean the difference between a quality meaningful conversation or just simple Smalltalk that will be forgotten about. As soon as the conversation is over. I am very pleased with this book. It has opened my eyes to the intricacies and magic of conversation and verbal communication that I don’t think I would have noticed otherwise.

This book helped me ace my job interview and has tamed my social anxiety!

"The average person navigates the world with themselves as the center." Best line in the book, and one of many tips that has helped me broaden my social experiences. I am familiar with a couple of other titles from Patrick King, so I decided to pick up this one. I am an introvert by nature, and I have suffered from social anxiety since age 13. This book has helped me tame my social anxiety and has provided me with valuable knowledge that has allowed me to enhance my social relationships. I will probably never get over the initial butterflies in my tummy-nervousness that comes with social anxiety, but thanks to this book I have made immense progress in my social interactions. I finally have the confidence to start conversations and keep conversations going and gone are my panic attacks from awkward conversations and the inability to speak and engage in conversations. With the knowledge obtained in this book, I have developed not only personal relationships, but professional ones as well. With tips and information from this book as my guide, I have been able to excel in job interviews. My social anxiety has been a hindrance in my career. Job interviews were always difficult for me, I always would fumble once I came face to face with a potential employer, and missed out on a lot of great opportunities that way. Yet I am writing this review today because thanks to what I have learned in this book, I have just recieved an email this morning from a company I interviewed with Wednesday, inviting me to a 2nd interview! I am so excited! Thanks to what I have learned from this book, I have gained an opportunity to advance my career! Patrick King is the King of the human psyche! This author understands humanity and truly seeks to improve us, one title at a time! I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to aquire the skills to be adored and admired in life through enhanced conversational skills, and I especially recommend it to anyone suffering from social anxiety, like me or natural introverts, also like me, who just want to improve their social interactions.

This book promised to be specific and precise but lacked any degree of depth. The chapters are extremely short and hardly cover much material. Very rarely would you find a useful nugget. On his Amazon page it looks like he churns out a new book every three months so maybe he should focus on taking the time to write one detailed book.

In which Nero leaves the house, handles a messy divorce case and gets a dog!

Nero Wolfe has many eccentricities, his orchids, his rigid schedule, his obsessive reading to name a few. Very prominent on this list is that Wolfe rarely leaves the house, NEVER handles divorce cases, and is opposed to animals in his house. In this collection of three novellas all of the above and more occur.

THE NEXT WITNESS is the first story. Nero Wolfe has been summoned to court as a witness in a murder trial. This has necessitated him to abandon his routine, travel in a car, sit in court (next to a woman wearing perfume!) and just when the end of this torment is in sight Wolfe walks out of court. Now a fugitive himself he, and Archie set out to solve the case in a more satifactory manner so Nero can return home. This is hilarious, Wolfe becomes involved in many unusual (for him) situations that he reacts to as only Nero Wolfe could or would.

WHEN A MAN MURDERS.... finds Nero and Archie confronted with a low bank balance and two eager clients which Wolfe would prefer to dismss since the case involves divorce. Still the details are intriguing enough to look into and soon this simple matter becomes one of death and deception.

The final work - DIE LIKE A DOG begins with Archie out on a simple errand. A would be client has taken Archie's raincoat by mistake so Archie go the man's apartment and retrieve his coat. When he arrives at the address he discovers that the situation has been complicated by the man's murder, he leaves in order to avoid dealing with the police but discovers that he has been followed home, by a dog. Archie then decides to have a little fun at Wolfe's expense before locating the dog's owner. Soon however the trio - Archie, Nero and the dog find themselves deeply involved in the case and with no client.

These are particularly funny entries into this long running series. Wolfe is thrust into many situations that he would very much prefer to avoid. Fans are treated to many juicy little tidbits about life in the brownstone and even a fleeting glimpse into Wolfe's mysterious past. The mysteries themselves, although somewhat secondary to the cozy/comic elements in these stories, are very clever, fairly laid out and challenge to reader to solve them before Nero reveals all.

A trio of excellent short stories

To date (beginning of season 2), 2 of the 3 stories herein have been adapted by A&E with Maury Chaykin as Wolfe; the TV series is extremely faithful to the original stories.
"The Next Witness" - (Adapted for _Nero Wolfe_'s 2nd season.) Wolfe makes a point of never leaving home on business, but alas, subpoenas are an occupational hazard for private investigators, and even Wolfe can't always shuffle them off onto Archie, even when the defendant never made it to the status of client.
Wolfe didn't deliver Leonard Ashe to the law; he rejected Ashe as a client because he won't touch marital squabbles. Ashe is being tried for the murder of one of the operators of his telephone answering service, apparently after a failed attempt to bribe her to tap his wife's calls. Wolfe, after hearing the testimony of preceding witnesses, skips out on the subpoena, taking Archie along, having become convinced that Ashe is innocent, though he doesn't at first explain why. See if you can deduce his reasons before the grand finale.
When Wolfe finally does take the stand quite a while later (now, of course, facing contempt of court), he has a diabolically clever plan to get his new evidence before the jury. Enjoy.
When a Man Murders... - Sydney Karnow had wealth, a sardonic sense of humor, a nice wife, and a pack of sponging relatives. A year after his marriage, he volunteered for army service in the Korean War, and was reported dead within a year, leaving his fortune divided between his wife (50%) and the spongers (50% divided 3 ways), so all were well provided for if not filthy rich.
Now, 3 years later, he's come back *alive* - two years after Caroline's remarriage to Paul Aubry. They used her inheritance to start an automobile agency, but the money didn't bring them to Wolfe - their problem is that their marriage is now invalid. (They're willing to concede anything about the money in exchange for a simple divorce.) Paul can't bring himself to speak with Karnow directly, and Karnow's lawyer won't get involved, so they're approaching Wolfe to act as intermediary.
Ordinarily Wolfe won't touch any case related to marital squabbles, but he's willing in this instance. Unfortunately, when Archie enters Karnow's hotel room at the Churchill, he's dead again, this time for keeps. Did Paul or Caroline try to hire Wolfe as a bluff? Or did one of the spongers (some of whom haven't *got* the money to repay the estate anymore) panic? Or was it something they don't know about yet?
"Die Like a Dog" - This has always been a favourite of mine, and I was very pleasantly surprised when A&E adapted it for _Nero Wolfe_'s 2nd season. A black Labrador literally follows Archie home, and not only retrieves his windblown hat, but turns out to be named 'Nero' (part of a much longer kennel-club name on his collar, but how could Archie resist?)
Unfortunately, the unannounced (even if temporary) introduction of a dog into the hallowed halls of the brownstone backfires in a totally unexpected manner, which you'll have to read/see to believe. :) The *dog* turns out to be a possible witness in a murder investigation, but how the heck can anybody learn anything from him?

About the Author

Dr. Nina Fonstein is currently a scientific advisor of automotive product development group, Global R&D, ArcelorMittal in East Chicago, USA, being for more than 10 years the manager of that group, leading investigations, development and commercialization of various grades of AHSS.� Before joining ArcelorMittal in 1999 she had been working in the I.P.Bardin Central Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy in Moscow, Russia, as a senior research associate and later as a head of the laboratory of formable steels working on dual-phase steels from 1979 and on TRIP-steels from 1988. She graduated from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys and hold Ph.D. in solid state physics from I.P.Bardin Central Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy (1968) and Dr. Science degree in physical metallurgy from Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys (1986) as well as the title of Professor from the Supreme Attestation Commission of Russian Federation (1990). Author of the book “Dual-phase low alloyed steels” (in Russian) and more than 100 publications in English. Supervised 16 PhD students in Russia and keep supervising PhD students – employees of ArcelorMittal.

The Fat Cat: a repetitive but funny picture book for young readers.

"There once was an old lady who was making some gruel. She had buisness with a neighbor lady, and asked her cat to watch it while she was gone....."
Thus begins a story of a VERY hungry little kitty cat, who not only eats the gruel....but the pot, and the old lady, and more and more! The cat gets fatter and fatter as he goes around eating everybody he meets to the point he resembles a furry hot-air ballon with shorts and a blue jacket. The story is(admittedly)a bit trite and repetitive , but very, VERY funny. I remember owning this as it kid, so I had to get it again. I don't want to spoil the ending, but let's just say the cat gets far worse than just a simple case of indegestion. Maybe a tad on the morbid side, but why complain? It's nothing you couldn't show your little 2 or 3 year old.

The Fat Cat a Danish Foldtale

My daughter loved this as a child and we literally wore the soft-covered book to a raggedly condition (although we still have it). Got this for my 4-year old granddaughter with the expectation that she will get a similar enjoyment from it. The book arrived ahead of schedule from the Grumpy Gargoyle. This was a new, not a used copy. Very happy with this order.

The Fat Cat is Back: Found my long lost favorite childhood book

I love this book. Had it as a child, some 40 years ago, and thought I'd find it some day. Well, I never did until I looked on Amazon.com. Actually, I found it on Amazon 4-5 years ago, but it was very expensive (like $30.00 or more, if I recall correctly). So, periodically I checked for lower prices and eventually it came down. The book is out of print, so it is rare. The seller got it to me very quickly, and even with a nice personal thank you note. The book was in great shape, and actually looked exactly and precisely like the one from my childhood. It was just what I wanted.

And the story is great. I have always wanted to read it to my boys, which I did the day it arrived. Now, both of them are beyond the age of having Dad read to them, but they loved it. The story is a hoot. Slightly silly, slightly creepy, and lots of fun. Thanks Amazon.

Unlike many other books, the entire OO dvelopment process is put in perspective, presenting both serial and iterative development strategies.

About the Author
Scott W. Ambler is a senior consultant of Ronin International, Inc., a software services consulting firm that specializes in software process improvement, mentoring, and training. He is also founder and thought leader of the Agile Modeling (AM) methodology and the Enterprise Unified Process (EUP). He is a popular international speaker, a regular columnist for Software Development magazine, and the award-winning author of several books, including The Object Primer 3/e, Agile Modeling, and Agile Database Techniques.

Clarifying the "What, When, Why and How" of OO Development

I probably purchased somewhere upwards of twenty books on the topics of the UML and object-oriented development before buying The Object Primer, 2nd Edition. Yeah, it probably would have been nice to have read this one first, but on the other hand, it may have been just the right book at the right time in terms of my learning process. As a result of my previous efforts, I was getting overwhelmed and confused by the sheer volume of concepts, notations, diagrams, development processes, and tools associated with becoming proficient with UML modeling and object-oriented development. While I had learned lots of important terminology and techniques from the previous books, I found The Object Primer to be enormously practical and useful in terms of putting it all together and breaking through to a working level of proficiency.
Among the aspects of the book that I appreciated are it's easy-to-read style, effective use of diagrams and visual examples, and the "techniques" sections with clear directives about what to do, and what not to do, in specific areas. I was able to use the technique lists in somewhat of a cookbook style as I applied what I was learning to some of my own work.
So far, in my growing library of OO development books, this one provides the "biggest bang for the buck".

Actually much more than just an object primer!

This is a great book! Not that it's perfect, but nothing is. This book is not only a very clear, extremely well-organized approach to learning and/or becoming expert in "Object Orientation and the UML," as the the cover says, but he presents this together with a development methodology that makes a *lot* of sense. For example, for those of you who have read Karl Wiegers' excellent "Software Requirements," did you notice that at the end of the book you knew exactly what good requirements are but not how to get there? Me too! But Ambler takes you on a whirlwind tour, with each page absolutely *packed* with value, that instead leaves you saying "hey, now I know not only what good object oriented designs are, but how to get there from here!"
This is a strange thing to say, but this book actually gave me the requirements engineering methodology I needed to get from point A to B -- having requirements that Karl Wiegers would be proud of!

This guy is good! The OO comes before the UML.

OO came first and then came UML to model it! This book is all about the principles of object-oriented requirements, analysis, and design first and secondly about the UML tools for modeling these steps in project development. That's as it should be since OO is the thing most to be admired, and UML is (just) a popular and very useful language for modeling OO development. Too many UML books are so intent on UML that the fundamentals of OO are ignored. The first edition of this book was published in 1995 just before UML was born. Its author, Scott Ambler, is a prolific and renowned writer and developer.
The book has many detailed UML diagrams and is clearly written in a pleasant, professional style. The book is not about implementation. Look elsewhere for sample code, including some of Ambler's fine other publications.
Don't be lislead by the word "Primer" in the title. It's for the serious reader and would make a good text, but for a junior or senior level CS course. If you are a professional and could have just two references in your library for your first OO project, this 523-page book together with a good programming reference (Java, C++, C#, or VB.NET) would be a good choice.
