�Larry Roberts is currently teaching parasitology and marine biology at the University of Miami. �He received his Ph.D. in Parasitology from Johns Hopkins University and is a coauthor of Foundations of Parasitology, 5/e. �Past teaching affiliations include University of Massachusetts, Texas Tech University, and Florida International University. �Dr. Roberts has authored numerous research articles and a title of related interest: Underwater World of Sport Diving. �

Boring, black and white!

This would have easily had a five star rating had there been color within the book! All photos and diagrams are black and white, making it hard to grasp!

The BEST textbook I have purchased in a long time!

The authors did a great job compiling all the complex and overwhelming information into a nice, concise and well-organized book. I chose to purchase the black and white copy, because it is cheaper, but I'm sure the color copy is even better than mine; which means a lot to me because I love my book entirely!
The sections are distinct, the main ideas and concepts of every chapter are very straight-forward and the pictures used have been wisely chosen to represent the information given in the best detail possible.
The writing technique is also impressive- the text does include A LOT of information, but it is not boring, nor does it seem to be mind-boggling. The authors did a great job stating the information clearly so as to enhance the reader's understanding and knowledge, without being wordy or confusing.

To compare, I have searched for other parasitology reference materials before, and I have purchased a few of them. The problem I kept facing was that there seemed to always be a lack of information given. For example, one of my references presented some parasites, what they looked like, their life cycles and their pathogenesis. But it did not explain the biophysiological characteristics of each parasite. Others I've had focused more on pathogenesis and prevalence, and did not detail life cycles, larva stages, etc.

Even though this book does not include information on every single parasite, it does provide the best foundation possible for understanding these organisms. And that's the most important part, because in this technology age we live in, we don't need to memorize every single piece of data- we can just google it- but what you do need is the "how" and "why". As long as you have a solid foundation, anything you come across will make sense. This book includes anatomy and physiology, life cycles, descriptions of each life cycle stage, it details the categories, classes, orders and families of parasites and uses specific examples of species within those classifications to illustrate the concepts, and the information is presented accurately and thoughtfully.

So, all in all this is truely 5 star material.

Disappointed in the lack of parasite images

I'm kind of disappointed in this book. I was excited to see lots of pictures of parasites, parasite diseases, and the like. This book has very few pictures, most of which don't bring much more to the table than the text itself, and to make it worse...most are in black and white.

Concrete Examples!

As one studies algebra, there is a common situation that the theorems get obscurity, immediately if you do not follow them on some concrete examples. And also a very common thing with the presentations is that the theorems follow without any motivation. This book provides lots of examples and motivations which make one understand the concepts clearly.

One of the Best Books ever on Abstract Algebra

Words can barely communicate how good this book is. Although the authors state in the preface that this is an undergraduate book, I think the material developed in the book covers most of graduate level Abstract Algebra as taught in the United States.The book actually contains 253 fully solved problems something sorely lacking in most American Textbooks. For some strange reason most American Authors think that just presenting a few theorems and examples in Abstract Algebra is enough ground for a student to be able to attack and solve theoretical exercises .This is how post calculus textbooks in U.S should be written , but unfortunately they are not.We have become accustomed to such low standards that trash textbooks like Hungerford and Gallian get 4 to 5 stars on this website. One of the Indian Author's of this text (M.K Sen) has also coauthored another masterpeice in Abstract Algebra (Topics in Abstract Algebra published by Universities Press India).Besides the solved problems in the textbook , there is also a lot of very concrete examples .Of course there is also a lot of exercises to make the student think on his/her own.The book contains many advanced topics like Galois theory , Artinian and Noetherian Rings and even some Coding theory.All topics are presented very clearly.For anybody who wants to learn Abstract Algebra on any level ,this book is a must .Five Stars.

This book was assigned for my Ethics course at Santa Fe College in Gainesville. It is a difficult read as it is basically just an anthology of essays (at least the first few chapters). Some translated, some just formal old English, and obviously the issues being covered are a little deeper than your normal academic textbook. Personally I am not a fan of this as an introduction to Ethics, but I suppose if you've had some exposure to reading a little bit of philosophy previously, you might enjoy it more. The book was in decent shape for the price and arrived quickly.

OK for a textbook

This book was needed/used for a college Philosophy class. Most of the text contains information regarding many different philosophers with excepts from different papers that they have written. A few things that I don't like about the book: no index and very little reviews/critiques on what the authors are saying. Many of the articles were written several hundred years ago, so difficult in many instances to interpret. Unless you need this book for a particular class, you may want to consider another choice.

Basil Davidson has re-created the story of the slave trade, highlighted by excerpts from the documents of historian, explorers, and other annalists of the period. This rich and thorough account, by the author of the prizewinning Lost Cities Of Africa, was originally published in 1961 under the title of Black Mother.
