Sickening....learn exactly how they work you over...

You know about love bombing, gaslighting and brainwashing, but the whole enchilada of techniques is laid out for you.

You are just a source of fuel, interchangable with another person if and when you 'disappoint them' which, by the way, is not us letting them down in the true sense but a decision by them that you HAVE let them down and you therefore deserve to be punished for it.

LOVED IT!

LOVED IT! This was the most creative of the bunch. He really made the connection to tools and how they were used.

Though my N is the altruistic, somatic, covert type rather than the overt and extremely pathological kind, it did give me insight into what he did, why he did it and why it made me feel soooo damn crazy. Unlike H G Tudor, mine has no idea what he is. And of course it is all my fault!

I also read Danger: 50 things to never do with an N - finally understood why EVERY vacation was ruined! Also read Evil and Manipulated, Fuel and Escape. Departure Imminent too. That was enough for me to "get it" that my N is an N. Very worth the price and time to read.

After reading all of these I had a dream about a monster who said: "this is who I have been hiding from you - This is what I really am." Last of the denial dropped away the next morning and I am in recovery!

No fluff all Facts Here....You will cringe on how accurate this real truth is.if you cannot read the truth then this book is not for you,This book is gonna hit home and will be a wake up call .If you are sensitive expect like no book before to really tell the true tales of the narc.For sensitive readers prepare for the dark side that you have known all along.the light that you once knew will shine again once read this and how to then understand in depth the way the narc, thinks and the mastermind of manipulation really is at his job.Bet you heard of Love Bombing or better yet the silent treatment or gas lighting disappearance to shove you back into that box once more...This will show you about the object you are and how they really think we are puppets for them to play. After reading this if you don't see the trees through the forest after this book would be very very surprised. a must read for everyone desperate for answers and answers for there ever going roller coaster of doubts ,and constant spinning.

More literary than devotional

This is not a "religious" book, in the conventional sense. The poetry is mystical in nature, but appears to be chosen for its literary merit more so than its spiritual or inspirational value. That said, for the literary-minded, this could also function as a sort of prayer book.

About the Author
Jack M. Fletcher, PhD, is a Distinguished University Professor of Psychology at the University of Houston. His research interests focus on learning disabilities and brain injury in children, including definition and classification, neurobiological correlates, and intervention. He currently is Principal Investigator of a Learning Disability Research Center grant funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). He was the 2003 recipient of the Samuel T. Orton Award from the International Dyslexia Association.
 
G. Reid Lyon, PhD, is the Executive Vice President for Research and Evaluation at Best Associates and Whitney International University, headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Prior to joining Best Associates, Dr. Lyon served as a research psychologist and the Chief of the Child Development and Behavior Branch within the NICHD, where he was responsible for the direction of research programs in developmental psychology, cognitive neuroscience, behavioral pediatrics, reading, and learning disorders. His research focuses on evidence-based education and learning differences and disabilities in children.
 
Lynn S. Fuchs, PhD, is Nicholas Hobbs Professor of Special Education and Human Development at Vanderbilt University, where she also codirects the Kennedy Center Reading Clinic. Her research focuses on classroom-based assessment as well as instructional methods for students with reading disabilities and math disabilities.

A must for any EC teacher's library

I rarely review textbooks, but this one deserves a huge shout-out. We're using this for a graduate-level special education course, and although I'm nearly finished with the program and have been working as an EC teacher for a couple of years, there's still loads of information in this textbook that I've never seen represented before. For example, none of my textbooks has ever shown a chart of which IQ ranges correspond to mild, moderate, severe, and profound intellectual disability. The organization of topics is thoughtful, and it's nice to have entire chapters devoted to learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, hearing loss, blindness, and gifted/talented students; these topics often get shortchanged (or are completely overlooked) in textbooks for teacher-preparation programs focusing on severe/profound disabilities. Although I've rented the e-textbook for the semester, I'll be paying the difference to purchase it once the rental period has expired.

Informative, but Visually Overwhelming

To "Go New" or not: That is the question.

I wouldn't, but I already have my M.Ed. If you're just starting your career as a teacher, or just starting to learn about becoming a teacher--especially of exceptional children--you'll probably get a lot of use out of this text. It's an excellent reference.

Indeed, this books has a ton of information in tiny print on glossy pages. It breaks up information to insert helpful teaching aides or stories about teachers doing the right things--which, on their surface are very helpful. I have no complaints about the content. But the format! The organization! Ugh.

THINGS TO NOTE:

When I'm reading about a technical topic, I don't want the information interrupted mid-paragraph or mid-section for a two-page spread about a teacher who is using a technique I read about three or four pages ago (or will read about in another page or two, under a separate subheading). Finish the section and then give me examples, or give me examples and then explain them in the section. Don't break up an unrelated section just to put in your colorful insert (and they are very colorful) before the chapter ends.

More, I don't want to see charts several pages away from the information they're trying to explain. I don't want two or three pages of charts in the middle of one section of text. I hate flipping back and forth, and flipping back and forth feels like all I do with this book.

OVERALL:

Again, the content is wonderful. I found the text balanced, fair, insightful, helpful, and up-to-date. But I couldn't get past the formatting. You go from walls of text where bold, italics, and sub-sized fonts run rampant to big, colorful splashes filled with more content, to two-page inserts complete with pictures, to charts with small font, back to tons of text--and few of the beautiful, colorful features make a lot of sense where they are placed. The reading experience is visually overwhelming, and the organization within the chapters is awful.

That said, the overall organization of the book is very nice--it builds well--and the chapters are informative. I would have preferred more information and techniques for "gifted and talented" children (they do get one chapter), but that isn't really the focus of this book. As a broad overview, it does its job--and it's obvious why this is a common choice for education classes. Just be prepared to read with your sunglasses on, and have your fingers poised for constant flipping.

Bad Access Code

The access code I received did not work. When I contacted Pearson's tech support, they told me the code was "incompatible" with the book and I would have to get a refund. I contacted Pearson a second time and insisted they resolve the issue, at which point they expired the unworkable code and gave me a new one. All in all, I spent roughly an hour fixing this. I was not pleased.
