A bit disappointing -2 1/2 stars
By Kimberlee Jewell
A disappointing outcome for a highly anticipated new book in this beloved series. I'm pretty sure that I own every book that Hannah Howell has ever written, and have really enjoyed this series in particular. This 7th book starts off with a "meet cute" moment; Bened Vaughn, our Hero, meets our heroine Primrose in the woods. She has a gun in her hands and repeatedly tells him to stop moving. He assumes she is afraid of him, but she really just doesn't want him to step on her spectacles. The H is big, dark and handsome; the h is tiny, blonde, and wears glasses - adorable! As usual, this author writes enjoyable characters and an interesting story line, but there were too many inconsistencies for me. *SPOILERISH* Having the h wear spectacles would have been a cute touch, but after their initial mention, they seemed to disappear. Primrose never takes them off, not while sleeping, not while making love; they don't even fall off when she is abducted! A missed opportunity right there- the lenses could at least have gotten all steamed up when Bened kissed her! It was also established early in the book that the h's brother didn't know that their father was dead - however, when the siblings find each other...nothing. No mention of poor, dead papa; no grief stricken reveal, just...* crickets*. I then had a real "wait, what?" moment near the end of the book. Primrose is being held captive in a church, about to be forced to marry a repugnant old man of her evil aunt's choosing ( this aunt is so villainous throughout the book, it borders on cartoonish ). Our intrepid heroine is at the altar, when the chapel door was thrown open, and Bened strode down the aisle. We later see the scene from Bened's point of view - He quietly slipped inside the church and crept down the aisle. WELL? Did he stride or did he creep? Hannah Howell has been an auto-buy for me for many years, and she will remain so. I really just wanted Bened's story to be better than this. I received this ARC from Netgalley for an honest review.

Wonderful Series - Love It
By M. Rondeau
First of all - I love this series and Ms. Howell’s family of Wherelocke’s and Vaughn’s are so totally unique, creative and totally imaginative it’s hard to have to wait for the next books detailing this amazing family.

Right from the start we are introduced to Lady Primrose Wooten who is in a desperate search for her brother now that her beloved father had died under mysterious circumstances. If she cannot locate her brother in time, her odious aunt and uncle are attempting to marry her off to a very sleazy man who is rumored to have killed his last three wives. Having been unseated in the woods, she is in dire straits without her spectacles and horse. Thankfully, Sir Bened Vaughn who has a knack for calming and a sixth sense of danger has come to her aid and offers his services to Primrose.

Bened has been on his own for some time, usually hired to protect and keep safe the heirs of nobility. Having saved the life of his last client’s heir, Bened has been rewarded with a title and lands by a grateful father. On his way to inspect his new lands he runs into Primrose. Something about Primrose stirs something primal in his blood, and after hearing her story, he feels honor-bound to assist her in her search.

Filled with intrigue, danger, and a simmering sensuality Bened and Primrose’s adventures are fraught with all kinds of hazards as her vengeful and psychotically evil aunt is determined to rid herself of one more impediment blocking her way to riches and power. Naturally, the call goes out to Bened’s many relatives and with their assistance and advice, Bened and Primrose manage to keep up with the evil machinations of her killer aunt.

Bottom line: Excellent read - fast action - simmering sensuality - plus fabulous characters - what more does one need!

Exciting Read
By Queen of Books
This was an exciting read that is part of a series, but can be read as a stand alone book. The characters and storyline kept my interest because a gifted MS Howell knows how to tend to her craft.
You know that this author tantalizes the reader with lots of adventure, mystery and sexual tension. It makes one want to keep reading until the very end. The hero in this next tale of Wherlocke family, is Sir Bened Vaughn. He's handsome, gifted, dangerous and so hot it will make you think of naughty things. Bened did not grow up titled, but he's earned his way with the sweat of his brow. He's not so high in the instep, but he layed back and in control. So when Bened meets the lovely Lady Primrose Wooten on the same road as he (she's fallen off her horse) and looking for her glasses and offers his help. Primrose comes up with a pistol aimed at Bened to leave her alone and go on down the lane (so to speak). But being a noble man, he just can't seem to do that. Bened gets the story out of the lady, and says he will be her protection, and find her brother that is missing.
You will want to find out how both of stubborn people try to keep from falling in love, but fate is fickle, and tries to throw lots of fences in their way. Especially the nasty relatives of Primrose who are bad to the bone.
I appreciate Net Galley and Kensington for this ARC title in which I gave an honest review.

Rita's or Paul's book?
By AP
I passed the PMP test today achieving my 11th certification, the most of them are IT related but PMP is a great knowledge asset for any professional, IT or not. Now that I have everything fresh in my mind, I want to share my experience with you: As a general rule for certifications, I always get two books, I fully study one, complete all the questions and then I take all the questions on the second book. In that way, I know the first book gave me all the necessary knowledge. For this journey I got "PMP In Depth: Project Management Professional Study Guide for PMP and CAPM Exams - In Depth" (Paul Sanghera) as my 'primary book' and "PMP Exam Prep, Fifth Edition: Rita's Course in a Book for Passing the PMP Exam" (Rita Mulcahy) as my 'questions book'.

If you don't know it yet, the whole PMP certification is organized around 9 knowledge areas (scope, time, cost, hr, procurement, risk, quality, integration and communication management. Each one has multiple related processes that are applied at different stages of the 5 phases of the project lifecycle (initiation, planning, execution, monitoring/controlling and closing). For example, you plan your costs during the planning phase and you control your costs during the monitoring and controlling phase of the project. Both cost processes belong to the cost management area of knowledge. So Rita's book is organized around this 9 knowledge areas while Paul's book is organize around the 5 phases of a project lifecycle.

I started with Paul's book four months ago (4hs every weekday, 11hs each weekend day). This book is fascinating! (please keep reading), because its organization follows the natural life of projects facilitating the learning process, it clearly shows inputs, processes and outputs for each project task, but it doesn't give you always a clear idea of where you are in reference to the knowledge areas. If the other hand, Rita's book is a complex reference to previous and subsequent page numbers, getting you to jump back and forth to understand how a project actually occurs.

I carefully studied Paul's book, I review every single detail on it, memorized every process (inputs, tools/techniques and outputs) and completed every question as well the 175 questions of his final test. I was confident of my knowledge, so I moved on to complete the questions in Rita's book. Misery! Rita destroyed every single hope I had of passing the test successfully! She made me feel that I have been wasting my time with Paul's book: I failed almost all her questions! It was probably the biggest book-related disappointment in my life, although Paul's book is easy to read, and well organized, it doesn't cover significant areas of the certification that are again and again presented in the test! While going thru Rita's questions I discovered that Paul has missed 2 absolutely essential areas required by the test. Let me tell you which ones: Cost management and communication management. The test has multiple questions related to these areas; if you don't know then you will certainly fail! I can't believe that Paul missed them, I consider that very irresponsible and not fair for students trusting his book.

With this fiasco, I went thru Rita's book and learned the remaining knowledge so my advice to you is: Study from Rita's book! Although it is organized around the 9 knowledge areas and they don't really follow the project lifecycle, but it is the way the test is organized and she covers all the topics of the test. To prove it to you (if you are skeptical and confused with so many light or emotional book reviews) I carefully took notes of the areas that Paul missed (I hope he reads this): Problem solving techniques (expectancy theory, motivation theory, McGregor's XY theory, Maslow's hierarchy of needs, Herzberg's theory and motivation agents), communication channels and formulas, PERT and PERT related calculations, cost estimation (can you imagine running a project without cost estimation?), project manager powers (formal, reward, penalty/coercive, expert and referent), outputs of contract administration, administrative close procedure applicability to each project phase. Besides this Paul's questions are extremely easy, the test questions are an extremely hard compared to them, therefore Paul's give you an inaccurate sense of test preparation level. I have also documented multiple important errata in his book and spent significant amounts of time verifying that they are actual errata. For instance: Paul's makes references to the cost baseline countless times in his book, but cost baseline is nowhere to be found (it is not even in the index), work performance is missed as an output of the directing and managing the project execution in the process chart, but is it cited two pages later; the administrative close procedure is an output of the close project process, he points out what the procedure should contain, but it never says when to execute it as he does it with the contract closure procedure.

It is just a very unreliable book for the test. So my advice to you, PMP student is, start with Rita's book and complete every single one of their questions, they look "too demanding, I can't believe the test is that hard" but the test is hard! Then if you have time and can buy Paul's book go directly to his questions and final test. But please, don't do it the other way around.

DON'T BUY IT. Read my eval why. I'm a 20+ year PM / BA who actually knows what he's doing.
By Scott
The fact that so many give it (5) stars tells me how stupid so many people are.

Just because you're possible an experienced PM does not mean YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

Getting to the book...

It's littered with incorrect statements and references throughout. It also leaves out many pieces of critical information.

It's basically a joke. You want to study for the PMP test? Join PMI and buy their latest PMBOK book. Memorize it.

I suggest first you take at least 3 - 5 years (or at least 4-6 different jobs) developing yourself as a PM first. Otherwise, you will not discern the key misstatements and lack of information in this book.

Not much else to say. Outside of 10-20 pages - it's not useful at all. In any way.

Buy the newer edition!
By Jeffrey Peterman
I bought this book a few weeks ago based on recommendations. I've just completed chapter 3, and found it a very good book, EXCEPT that the answer key for the chapter test questions has mistakes. For example, it may say that the answer is B, but the explanation it gives only fits for answer A - obviously the order of the answers was changed after the answer key was generated.

I went to the publisher's site to see if there was an updated answer key and discovered that this is the old edition of the book, published in 2006! There is a second edition, with an almost identical cover, from 2010.

So, apart from the errors I've found, the book is obsolete - chances are that things have changed in the last 4 years and using this book to prepare for the PMP or CAPM exam could be a big mistake.

However, I do like the way this book is written, so now I'm off to spend more money and buy the 2nd edition.
