About the Author

Professor Bruno Lotter war lange Jahre Gesch�ftsf�hrer eines international t�tigen Unternehmens der Feinwerktechnik und ein bekannter Hochschullehrer. Er ist Autor, Vortragender und Berater zum Thema Montage. Seine gro�e Erfahrung ist in zahlreichen B�chern, Aufs�tzen sowie Forschungs- und Beratungskonzepten dokumentiert. Sein besonderes Anliegen ist es, die Produktion in Deutschland durch methodisch fundierte und praxisnahe Konzepte zu st�rken.

Professor Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. mult. Hans-Peter Wiendahl war nach dem Studium an der RWTH Aachen und am MIT in USA mit anschlie�ender Promotion und Habilitation 7 Jahre in leitenden Funktionen in einem Maschinenbauunternehmen t�tig. Von 1979 bis 2003 war er Gesch�ftsf�hrender Leiter des Instituts f�r Fabrikanlagen und Logistik an der Leibniz-Universit�t Hannover mit den Schwerpunkten Fabrikplanung, Produktionssteuerung und Montage. Er ist Gastdozent an der ETH Z�rich, der RWTH Aachen und der Jacobs-Universit�t Bremen.

Malacrida explains how isolating the Michener Centre’s residents from their communities served as a form of passive eugenics that complemented the active eugenics program of the Alberta Eugenics Board. Instead of receiving an education, inmates worked for little or no pay – sometimes in homes and businesses in Red Deer – under the guise of vocational rehabilitation. The success of this model resulted in huge institutional growth, chronic crowding, and terrible living conditions that included both routine and extraordinary abuse.

Combining the powerful testimony of survivors with a detailed analysis of the institutional impulses at work at the Michener Centre, A Special Hell is essential reading for those interested in the disturbing past and troubling future of the institutional treatment of people with disabilities.

About the Author
Paul Levitz entered comics in 1971 as editor of The Comic Reader, the first comics newszine, which won two Best Fanzine Comic Art Fan Awards. He has received the Inkpot Award and the Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award and serves on the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund board. Levitz is known for his writing, including an acclaimed run on the LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES, a series to which he's returned. On staff from 1973, Levitz was DC's youngest editor ever, ultimately became publisher in 1989 and president and publisher from 2002 to 2009.

Amortized analysis is a new field in algorithm research. In this book, detailed descriptions are given to introduce this new and difficult-to-understand concept.

About the Author

R. C. T. Lee received his B. Sc. degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering of National Taiwan University and Ph. D. degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from University of California, Berkeley. He is a professor of both the Computer Science and Information Engineering Department and Information Management Department of National Chi Nan University. Professor Lee is an IEEE fellow. He co-authored Symbolic Logic and Mechanical Theorem Proving, which has been translated into Japanese, Russian and Italian.

S. S. Tseng and R. C. Chang both received their B. Sc. and Ph. D. degrees from the Department of Computer Engineering, National Chiao Tung University. Both of them are professors in the Department of Computer and Information Science, National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan.

Y. T. Tsai received his B. Sc. degree from the Department of Computer and Information Science of National Chiao Tung University and Ph. D. degree from the Department of Computer Science of the National Tsing-Hua University. He is presently an associate professor in the Department of Information Science and Management of the Providence University.

A good book of algorithms design.

If you are looking for an updated text focused on algorithm design, this is the one you should read. Examples and exercises are great, even when they are not very used in other texts. The style could be polished. For example, the pseudo code could be easier to read.

There is a secret sauce...

Having been fortunate enough to have worked at some of the best companies in Silicon Valley and beyond, and with five start-ups under my belt, I can assure you that luck and timing aren't everything. Great vision isn't all it's chalked up to be either. And persistence, while crucial, will only get you so far. All of these things are important, to be sure. However, there is an elusive element to what makes a great company from the start. And John Montgomery has captured its essence. From kick *ss companies like SlideShare, which was recently acquired by LinkedIn to Blogger, to Skype to Webmail.us, certain patterns either predispose a start-up to success or lack thereof.

Great from the Start demystifies the "it" behind what makes certain nascent companies different. Chapter by chapter, John "Monty" Montgomery looks at the role that being conscious plays in making decisions that stick. He goes on to discuss how start-up team structure is the foundation for being well positioned to not squander good luck, and to turn bad luck into valuable learning experiences.

Disruptive! this book proves to you that it pays more to be good!

I picked up the book at bed time at the end of a long day and started reading thinking that I will browse another book on entrepreneurship and startups. I was wrong. I was reading on and on until it was around 1:30am when sleep got a hold of me. I found it hard to stop reading.

The author writes in a very eloquent and flawless way about how it pays to be good, and how a successful startup can be more successful; and if you are in the process of starting one, then you are more likely to succeed if you start ethical, positive and good first without overlooking price models and how to make money; in other words, greed is not good, only good is good and will bring you more good.

Based on latest research of neuro-leadership and neuro-socio and biological workings of the brain and its impact on human behavior the book starts by laying out the foundation for "using neuroscience, psychology and organizational development to design our startups for how humans work best" the book starts by explaining the role of social neuroscience, neuro-economics and the dynamics of neuro-leadership and the impact this has when you build a humane startup based on trust, and good then you cultivate followers both who champion you inside: work for you diligently and outside: customers. If a startup ecosystem is influenced primarily by its founders and the first batch of employees; then how would you behave, influence and lead in order to accomplish your goal? our biology and brain dynamics says that when we are good to each other we can work more and accomplish more.

The book explains that and the impact of doing the right thing at the right time driven by ethics first, not by greed, and how when you are an ethically inspiring and motivating leader you are bound to accomplish more. But this is no theory. The author lists a good list of startups that he has followed and researched over the last 20 years or so and describes the story of the rise of a technological feat in each case.

This is a good necessary read especially for the aspiring startup founder. I think it brings something new to the table; it sheds a new light, a new perspective on things that are rarely seen or looked at in other good books on the subject, a fresh look at the dynamics of a startup that is more biologically and ethically driven and more related to how we human beings think, work, or how our brains function in an organization like a startup. Inspiring indeed.
